A1.1 — Lesson 3: Numbers
Intro
Numbers are essential from day one — for prices, phone numbers, ages, and time (coming in A1.2). This lesson covers 0–100 and the pattern for building any number in between.

Grammar Point: Building Numbers
0–12 are unique words (see vocabulary above).
13–19 = digit + "zehn": dreizehn (13), vierzehn (14), fünfzehn (15), sechzehn (16, note dropped "s"), siebzehn (17, dropped "en"), achtzehn (18), neunzehn (19).
Tens (20–90) = digit + "zig" (with two irregulars): zwanzig (20), dreißig (30, note "-ßig" not "-zig"), vierzig (40), fünfzig (50), sechzig (60), siebzig (70), achtzig (80), neunzig (90).
21–99: say the ones digit first, then "und" (and), then the tens — the reverse of English!
21 = einundzwanzig (one-and-twenty) 34 = vierunddreißig (four-and-thirty) 67 = siebenundsechzig (seven-and-sixty) 99 = neunundneunzig (nine-and-ninety)
100 = hundert (or einhundert). 101 = hunderteins. 200 = zweihundert.
Note: eins becomes ein when directly followed by another number word: einundzwanzig, not einsundzwanzig.
