A1.1 â Lesson 8: Common Regular Verbs (Present Tense)
Intro
You already conjugated wohnen and kommen in Lesson 4. This lesson expands your verb toolkit with more common regular verbs and covers a small but important spelling rule: what happens when the verb stem ends in -t or -d.

Grammar Point: Regular Verb Conjugation + the "-t/-d Stem" Rule
Recall the standard endings from Lesson 4: -e, -st, -t, -en, -t, -en (for ich, du, er/sie/es, wir, ihr, sie/Sie).
Example with lernen (stem: lern-):

Spelling rule: if the verb stem ends in -t or -d (like arbeiten, stem arbeit-), an extra -e- is inserted before endings that start with a consonant (-st, -t), so the word stays pronounceable:

Without the extra "e", du arbeitst would be hard to pronounce â that's why German inserts it. This rule applies to any -t/-d stem verb: finden â du findest, reden â du redest.
