A1.1 — Lesson 7: The Verbs sein and haben
Intro
Sein (to be) and haben (to have) are the two most important verbs in German — you'll use them constantly, and they're both irregular, so they need to be memorized individually rather than following the regular pattern.

Grammar Point: Conjugating sein and haben
sein (to be) — irregular in every form:

Useful idiom: German uses haben (not sein) for hunger, thirst, and age:
Ich habe Hunger. (I'm hungry — literally "I have hunger") Ich habe Durst. (I'm thirsty) Ich bin 25 Jahre alt. (I am 25 years old — this one does use sein)
Sein is used with adjectives describing state: Ich bin müde/glücklich/krank.
